In recent years we are finding more and more children with anxiety disorders. They don’t know how to deal with their problems. Well known actress, Goldie Hawn, believes that if you teach children to learn how to deal with their emotions, perhaps these disorders can be nipped in the butt at an early age. In 2005 Goldie Hawn started the Hawn Foundation. Basically, she is trying to give children the proper equipment to enhance their emotional and social skills.
By working with professionals and researchers, the MindUP program was created. The MindUP program is already taught in over 1000 schools in the U.S. It’s a program meant to be incorporated in the curriculum at schools. What better place for children to learn how to deal with their emotions!. This program features 15 lessons to improve behavior and learning for children. It’s a way for children to keep in touch with their emotions, regulate them and also teaches children how to manage stress. All of these things affect a child’s ability to focus. The program is also surrounded by an optimistic attitude, trying to maintain happiness in children through empathy and acts of kindness.
Just think what our lives would be like if we had this education at a young age. Perhaps my GAD and Panic Attacks would have been avoided. I am so excited about this program because if we can give children the proper tools the maybe we can help eliminate these problems.
You may know Goldie Hawn as a celebrity but celebrities are people too!. Goldie suffered from panic attacks and depression starting from the time that she appeared on the hit television show Laugh-In. She spent many years in therapy and researching how the brain affects our emotions. Finally, she was able to conquer her disorders. She has written a new book “10 Mindful Minutes: Giving Our Children the Social and Emotional Skills to Lead Smarter, Healthier, and Happier Lives”. The new book explains her program for children and helps to teach parents how to initiate these programs at home. I can’t wait to read it!
