Okay, now that we have all had a few days to absorb the fact that Osama Bin Laden is dead, I’d like to know how your anxiety level is affected. My initial reactions were happiness and relief. Then I became concerned wondering if Al Qaeda would retaliate. Are we really safe? I found my anxiety level going up and want answers that no one is able to give at this time. So I have increased my meditation time to help keep me focused on what I can control. As someone who suffers from GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) my mind tends to go in the direction of dread. Unsure of what lies ahead is always there and I normally feel that whatever happens was meant to be. That does not mean that I am necessarily happy with the result but if I cannot personally have control over a situation, there is no point in dwelling on the outcome.
Dealing with issues as they occur is the best way to manage your anxiety level. Worrying about what might happen is how we let our anxiety fester. So take some time to react to Bin Laden’s death because this issue is happening now. Do not dwell on what might or will happen, as a result of Bin Laden’s death, because we really don’t have any control over this, do we?
